Your arrival at Paro will be greeted by the spectacular and majestic view of Rimpung Dzong. The valley so picturesque and mesmerizing in nature will give you the feeling that you have finally landed the land of true Happiness. From the beautiful valley of Paro, you will be cruised towards Thimphu, the capital city of our country, through metaphorically glided road. Your journey will be halted for a while at the confluence of Pachu (Paro River) and Wangchu (Thimphu River) to the scenario. Once you cross the confluence, you enter the capital city of our country. While enjoying the magnificent pervading green sceneries on your way, you will get attracted toward the fortress on a towering hill. It is tantalizing for all those visitors who come to Bhutan. This is Simtokha dzong, which was built by the founder of Bhutan, a Theocratic leader, Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in 1627. It is also the oldest existing fortress in the kingdom. After a euphoric visit at the Dzong, you will be led to the hotel to tranquilize your jet-leg. Explore in the town. Overnight in the hotel.
After the breakfast, sightseeing in Thimphu entails, visit to the National Memorial Chorten, a monument erected in commemoration of the Third King of Bhutan, His late Majesty the King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. You will be overwhelmed by the incredible paintings on inside cylindrical walls if you coincide with the auspicious days on which it will be opened. The strange but ascetic statues let you transcend our state religion, Buddhism. Your yearning will further be expanded when your aide shows you the National Library, which has the repertoire of ancient Buddhist manuscripts. Then you will be taken to the school of 13 Arts and Craft collectively known as ‘Zorig Chusum’, the National Painting School, which is the epitome of our unique tradition and culture. Adjacent to the Painting school stands the Folk Heritage Museum, which will entice you to explore more about our culture. After the lunch, an excursion to Cheri Monastery will be a treat for your adventurous mind. On your way through the sylvan path, amidst the tranquility of the nature you will hear the melodious sounds of endangered birds which are rare to other world. This is an indispensable opportunity to experience the Bird Watching. In the evening, you will visit Tashichhoe Dzong (Fortress of the Glorious Religion) which was built in 1641 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and reconstructed in 1961 by the Late King, His Majesty the King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. It is also the office of our Kings. Subsequently, you will make a visit at the Handicrafts Emporium which showcases our exquisite artistry of traditional crafts and textiles. You will dine and halt the night in the hotel.
After the breakfast, you will drive to Paro. In Paro, visit the Ta dzong, an ancient watchtower built in 1656, and now serves as the national museum of Bhutan. Your enriching and memorable experiences will further be snowballed when you visit the Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong) built in 1646. It presently harbors the administrative offices of Paro and the classrooms for Buddhist students. After lunch, make a short trip to the Drukgyel Dzong, now in ruins. It was built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to commemorate the victory over the Tibetan invaders in1644. It is profoundly symbolic which signifies Victory. It was used as an administrative center until 1951 when a fire caused by butter lamp destroyed it. Then visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred monasteries dating from the advent of Buddhism in the 8th century. Now, as you have already imprinted the memories of Bhutan, you would wish to take back home with you some Bhutanese products to remind your wonderful trip. You can do shopping from the market. You will dine and halt night at a hotel in Paro.
The early next morning, you will drive to the Paro Airport. You are sure to feel reluctant to leave Bhutan and you may wish to make your second visit. Your heart will be content and your experiences, now simply a memory will remind you time and again of the cordial people and marvelous green pervading vegetation of the Land of Happiness. Bhutan is a year-round destination. There are four seasons: summer (June to August), autumn (September to November), winter (December to February) and spring (March to May). But because of the range of altitudes in the country, and the influence of the north Indian monsoons, the climate is incredibly varied.
In the south, the humid, subtropical climate is fairly consistent year-round, with temperatures between 15oC and 30oC. Central Bhutan, with its temperate forests, has a more seasonal climate, with warm summers and cool, dry winters. The northern regions are much colder during winter. Because of the high altitude, mountain peaks are snowy year-round and the lower reaches remain cool in summer.
In summer, the Indian monsoon season runs from late June or July to late September, mostly affecting the southern regions. Most farming activities take place in the summer, when crops thrive in verdant landscapes.
Autumn, from late September or early October to late November, follows the rainy season. It is characterised by bright, sunny days and some early snowfall at higher elevations. It’s the season of feasts and festivals as farmers reap the fruits of their work.
From late November until March, the crisp, clear and sunny winter sets in, with frost throughout much of the country and snowfall common above elevations of 3,000 metres. The winter northeast monsoon brings gale-force winds at the highest altitudes through high mountain passes, giving Bhutan the name Drukyul, which means Land of the Thunder Dragon in Dzongkha (Bhutan’s national language).
Bhutan’s generally dry spring starts in early March and lasts until mid-April. It is a botanist’s delight, with nature in full bloom. Summer weather commences in mid-April with occasional showers and continues to late June.

The country has one international airport located in Paro. Flights operated by Drukair and Bhutan Airlines arrive and depart from destinations including Bangkok, Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Bodhgaya, Dhaka, Kathmandu, Guwahati and Singapore. Private jets or charters can fly into Bhutan after obtaining the relevant approvals.
There are also domestic airports in Yonphula in eastern Bhutan, Bumthang in central Bhutan, and Gelephu in south-central Bhutan.
There are no rules about what visitors should wear. However if you are planning to visit places of religious significance, respectful smart-casual clothing that covers your body from shoulders to knees is appropriate and appreciated.
